Our Story
Pretty Bird™ is a collaboration between two close friends, Nancy Denney Essex and Dian Sourelis, who view life as a joyous experience of spiritual connection. It is a labor of love — love of beauty, love of feminine energy, and love of spirit.
Dian and Nancy first crossed paths through their creative agencies in Chicago. They were each pursuing their spiritual growth independently — Dian was traveling extensively and nurturing her passion for global service, while experiencing indigenous cultures and spiritual traditions around the world. Nancy explored closer to home, earning her yoga teacher and Reiki healer credentials, while studying tai chi, chi gung and the healing power of crystals and gemstones.
Reconnecting over weekly breakfasts and mastermind sessions, the two friends launched Pretty Bird as a way to facilitate the transformation and healing journeys of others through the sharing of their own discoveries. Pretty Bird’s handmade pieces are inspired by ancient global traditions, mythology, spiritual practices and celebrations, and the infinite wisdom of the human body. Each is personally designed by Nancy and Dian, and based on a tradition, intention or energetic principle that embodies the Pretty Bird mission — to adorn with spiritual purpose and honor the sacred within all of us.
